Blues and jazz singer Cindy Cain honed her “attitude-laden vocals” during more than a decade of performances in the Washington, D.C. area. During that time she built her performance schedule up to an average of 140 club, restaurant, private party, and festival dates annually.

Since relocating to Tulsa in 2001 she has performed at the Oklahoma jazz Hall of Fame, Tulsa International Mayfest, the Bowery, the Velvet Room, Bourbon St. and Lanna Thai. Her backing musicians include nationally known players Tommy Tripplehorn and David Teegarden, as well as Jim Strader and Jon Glazer.

From 1997 until moving, she was regularly nominated for the best blues and best jazz vocals by the Washington Area Music Association. Cain released her well-reviewed debut CD in 1998 and in 2000 was called “one of the best singers on Washington’s blues scene” by a Washington Post writer. In 1998 she received five nominations for best blues vocals, blues recording, traditional jazz vocals, traditional jazz recording, and debut release.

Live television appearances include a morning newscast performance on D.C. ‘s Fox Channel 5. Taped appearances include a segment on Valentine’s Day brunches on Ch. 7 in D.C. and independent shows, “Inside the Blues” and “The Music Shop.”

Washingtonian Magazine named Cain and her crew in 1999 and 2000 among the best “hot” bands for reception music based on their ability to keep the dance floor hopping. Cain performed on average 20 weddings a year.

Raised in Pryor, Cain landed her first singing gig in 1988 with a Cameroonian jazz quartet while working (1986-1988) and congressional press secretary(1989-1994), she now works in the telecommunications industry.
